Why we don't speculate on the price of our cases

How prices form on the resale market

On resale groups and mainstream marketplaces, the same product can sell at very different prices depending on the market's mood. A card that goes viral can send the displays that might contain it soaring, sometimes within hours, with no link to what the seller actually paid.

What we do instead

The price of a spot in an Unmapped room is fixed the moment the room opens. It doesn't change if the market goes up while the room is filling, and it's identical for every buyer in that room, whether the draw gives them the most sought-after display in the batch or any other one.

In practice: two buyers in the same room pay exactly the same price, even if one draws a display containing a highly sought-after card and the other doesn't. The price was never indexed to that outcome, because at the moment you reserve your spot, no one knows it yet.

What this doesn't mean

It doesn't mean the price is zero or symbolic: every room is still built to cover the real cost of the case, plus Unmapped's running costs. It simply means that price is decided before the opening, once, for the whole room, and never adjusted afterward based on what the case reveals.

Why it matters

Rarity itself stays real: that's exactly what our card-by-card odds data shows. What we take out of the equation isn't the luck of the draw, it's speculation on the transaction itself: no one pays more because the market got carried away between their reservation and the opening.

A fair shot at a fair price. The draw stays a draw. The price doesn't move.
